Since Friday, I have been sucked into scouring this wicked thread on Jossip about the firing of a major editor at the two leading soap mags, Soap Opera Weekly (where she ran it) and Soap Opera Digest (where she wildly opined every week in a two-page column).
The comments section is rife with posts from delighted readers, gossipy fans, and ex- and current employees who are dishing dirt left and right. Some of the posters (most of them using soap pseudonyms) are slinging crazy and outlandish-sounding scoop, and some of them are absolutely insiders; a few more, posting under their real names, are people who got out from under the regime's thumb and are singing like canaries. There's even lawsuit-worthy stuff being revealed about false rumors spread after certain people quit years ago.
Obviously, like anything, there is plenty of chaff to separate from the wheat -- but there IS wheat. Although even the chaff is entertaining. I feel dirty reading it and yet I can't stop.
Hmm... I have also been perusing this thread in my spare time (read: hitting refresh every few minutes for DAYS on end). It is fascinating. With all that drama, I'm kind of shocked that a Gawker-style soap industry gossip blog doesn't already exist.
